The forecourt is changing faster than any other retail channel. Fuel margins shrink, EV charging extends dwell time, and the shop becomes the profit engine. StudioJDV designs petrol station shops and forecourt retail concepts that capture this shift, turning a quick fuel stop into a food, coffee and convenience destination.

What we do in petrol and forecourt retail
We develop complete forecourt concepts: the convenience shop, food-to-go and coffee offer, layout and routing, exterior recognition, and the brand story that ties the site together. From a single flagship station to an international network, we design for the operator's real economics: basket size, transaction speed and site labour.
The energy transition is a design brief in itself. Longer EV charging stops demand better seating, better food and a reason to stay; our concepts are ready for the forecourt of the future.

Proven at network scale
For OMV we redefined the shop experience with the VIVA brand across a roll-out of more than 400 stores, and for Shell we design retail that fuels more than the journey. Network roll-outs demand a format manual that keeps hundreds of locations consistent while adapting to local site conditions; that discipline is at the core of how we work.

Why StudioJDV
We are an international creative agency in the tradition of the Dutch Design School, with over 35 years of retail experience and studios in the Netherlands and Dubai. Because we design supermarkets and QSR concepts as well, we bring real food retail and food service craft to the forecourt, where the growth is.
Frequently asked questions
Can an existing petrol station network be rolled out in phases?
Yes. We design remodeling kits alongside the full concept, so sites can be upgraded in stages, between fuelling operations, with investment levels per site type based on the redevelopment and rebranding necessary per service station.

How do you deal with EV charging in forecourt design?
We treat charging dwell time as an opportunity: stronger food and coffee concepts, comfortable seating and work spots, and routing that invites a second purchase. We redesigned the forecourt retailing experience together with Shell to create a homecoming atmosphere.

Do you design the food offer as well as the shop?
